John Rogers Transferware Reticulated Chestnut Bowl & Underplate “Elephant”

Charming antique blue and white transferware octagon shaped reticulated pierced two handled chestnut basket bowl with matching underplate in the “Elephant” pattern, produced by John Rogers & Sons, Staffordshire England, circa 1825. Basket has diamond shaped piercing reticulations with Asian scene complete with pagodas, stylized trees, an animal handler and elephant in the bottom of the bowl. Above the diamond shaped piercings on the inside is a large white floral and leaf border with a dainty scallop pattern near the top. The floral design is repeated on the basket’s upper exterior, with bold lines outlining the diamond cut outs. Underplate repeats the Asian scene in the middle, surrounded by a wide white floral and leaf border. The undertray is pierced reticulated with large looping scallops 

Basket measures approximately 6 ½” x 8 1/2” across top, not including handles, 9 ¾” including handles. 3” deep. Tray measures approximately 9 ¼” x 7 ½”. Both pieces are in overall very good antique condition. Basket has no chips, no cracks, no repairs. Underplate has one chip and loss of glaze on back of underplate that does not impact display. Minor discoloration. Colors are bright with no fading.
