South Fork Of The Stanislaus River is well known for it's large pockets of placer gold and huge sized gold nuggets. The gold is produced from eroding quartz veins protruding into the area and the network of tertiary channels of the Ancient Calaveras River. These channels have been the main producer of placer gold into the region and run along the ridges above the creeks and streams in an easterly direction.

From Sonora take State Highway 108 towards Twain Harte. Continue through Twain Harte east on Highway 108 towards Cold Springs . Before arriving in Cold Springs turn left onto Forest Service Road 4N 14. Look for the sign off the highway that says Fraser Flat Campground. Stay on 4N 14 for approx. 2 1/4 miles and turn left onto a Forest Road heading along the river. This road is approx. 1/4 mile from the bridge crossing the river. Continue on this Forest Road for 1/3 of a mile and you will be very near the east boundary of the claim. From this spot the claim runs downstream for a 1/4 mile. Along this road you have beautiful riverside camp areas to choose.
