GOLD-SILVER MINE CLAIM, COLORADO, HISTORICIC PHOTOS, MAPS
You are bidding on a 20 Acre unpatented Mining claim that covers a mine with tunnels and two entrances. It is located in Gunnison County Colorado.
Please read the whole description before you send me questions since most of your questions will be answered in this disclosure.
This claim has been properly located and recorded in Gunnison County and the Colorado BLM.
Significant amounts of gold and silver have been taken from this mine and the surrounding area over the past 120 years.
A unique opportunity to own a piece of history, this is a mining claim in the high Rockies between Buena Vista and Gunnison Colorado. The claim includes a complete hard rock mine with mine cart rails, two entrances, and a tailing pile some 80 foot tall. This mine is part of a mining district which included 9 other claims beginning in 1893 operating until 1948 when the then elderly owner passed away. We originally began to study the mining district in 1974 and found the original bunkhouse-kitchen mule stable to be standing and maintained by one of the original miners who worked this mine.
I visited the mountain in 2018 and 2019. The mine and district is located at 11,900 ft. Access is via either of two trail heads which are accessed by paved road, 4.7 mi. or 6.3 mi.to the claim. The original owner used pack burrows to access the mine. Although a non-vehicle designation in a Natural Forest, a permit may be negotiated with the local forest office to use a quad or other vehicle. The corners of the claims are marked with a chain and brass tag buried in rock cairns, photos and GPS coordinates provided.
Included in the sale offering are:
1. Colorado BLM Mining Claim covering 20 acres with lower and upper mine entrances, with car rail extending from each entrance, with 10 or more rail sections scattered on the tailing pile and property.
The rails can be seen in the picture were still in place in 2019.The tailing pile. One could easily spend years working the tailings of this substantial estimated 80 foot high pile of rock dug from the mountain. Shown in the picture is a sample of gold-silver ore one of us found in the tailing pile.
3. Historical hand drawn map of mining district showing 10 other potential claims adjacent to this claim. One of the potential claims covers a gold-silver mine across the basin which proved to be very prosperous. As of this date, all of the 10 claims can be filed at the Colorado BLM offices for $292 per 20 acre claim.
Mining history of the mining company goes back to 1893 in the recording office of Gunnison County records.
7. A photo of the mining building, dormitory, kitchen and mule stockade, now collapsed is adjacent to the mine claim we are offering. The building was located on one of the original claims and is rumored to have a hard-rock cave of its own, originally a trappers cabin, then perhaps for cold storage of supplies and also for additional mining exploration. This claim is also available for re-claim.
SUMMARY
In summary, this is a unique opportunity to have a gold mine in Colorado, that alone is worth bragging rights. But even more potential exists. For $292 per claim plus the county recording fees you could own the entire 11 claim mining district. There are numerous other remnants of this historical are: the base of the original steam driven 5 hammer mill, remnants of two work shacks on the claim offered; one a cooper shack, the other for supplies. Adjacent creek provides fresh, potable water and fish. The view of the top of the Rockies is spectacular. Herds of deer and evidence of bears abound.
At our advanced ages, the high altitude is difficult for us to continue, but a young person or group could take up where we left off and further re-develop the area and perhaps re-open the mining district. Using modern extraction techniques, there is much potential to extract gold and silver from this claim.
This claim is for someone who wants a high quality gold and silver claim with much that can be developed further into the future. Due to the nature of the undeveloped surrounding area, we are not listing the specific site area that will be included in the historical documents offered with this package.
The claim has all the current fees paid in Gunnison County and the Colorado BLM. Fees will not need to be paid until September 1 of 2022.
